The Wynberg Magistrate’s Court has heard that two witnesses identified Alroy Simon (27) – the man who is alleged to have opened fire on a minibus taxi, killing two people – says a Cape Argus report.

The prosecutor told the court Simon had been charged with two counts of murder for the 21 January shooting. But the defence has denied the allegations, saying Simon has an alibi. The report notes the taxi driver, an allged gang member, and a passenger who was seated directly behind the driver were killed in the attack. The prosecutor said two witnesses identified Simon as a member of the Junkie Funkie Kids and that the incident had been gang-related. Simon will be held in custody at Pollsmoor Prison until 4 February when he next appears in court.
