Rob Packham will have to surrender his Audi Q5 to the police for investigation.
Wearing dark pants and jacket and a blue shirt, he appeared in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday May 8 (“Packham suspect back in court,” Bulletin March 8).
Mr Packham has been charged with murder and defeating the ends of justice after his wife Gill Packham’s charred remains were found in the boot of a burnt-out BMW at Diep River station on Thursday February 22.
Prosecutor Brynmor Benjamin said investigators needed to get tyre imprints from the accused’s car.
Mr Packham’s lawyer, Ben Mathewson, said his client was willing to cooperate with the police and would surrender his vehicle as soon as a date was set.
Mr Mathewson also told the court he would make a formal application to amend the accused’s bail conditions.
These prevent Mr Packham from communicating with witnesses,
including his sister.
Mr Packham was arrested on Friday March 9 and was released on R50 000 bail and was then placed under house arrest in his Constantia home.
The case has been postponed to Tuesday July 10 to allow for further investigation, including the postmortem report and DNA analysis results for blood found in the garage,
bathroom and door of the accused’s car.
